Tips & Tricks to Help Merchants Prepare for the Holidays
September 25, 2018
As a partner of Pitney Bowes, ConnectShip | iShip has been given an early look at the Pitney Bowes 2018 Holiday Readiness Guide. This guide contains key tips, tricks, dates, best practices, and interesting statistics to help merchants prepare for the upcoming holiday season. Without giving away all the content, here are a few interesting statistics from the guide that stood out to us:

  • Consumers like free Shipping
  • Each year, Pitney Bowes surveys a merchant-base. Interestingly enough, they discovered 86% of US-based consumers would prefer free shipping with a longer delivery time than having to pay for shipping.
Statistics like this remind us that fully utilizing a true multi-carrier strategy and understanding what items you’re shipping and where you’re shipping them to, enables you to understand even more of your customers’ needs and leverage all carriers.

  • Order status visibility is important
  • The typical consumer looks up the status of his or her order an average of 8 times. Think about that number for a minute. In the era of Amazon, most packages are delivered in 2-3 days. In those 2-3 days, a consumer is looking at their order status 8 times.

Think about it another way. Retailers have 8 opportunities, about 2 times a day, to engage with their customers after an order comes into their system. These are key opportunities for merchants to re-market or deliver special promotions to customers.

  • Smart shopping on smartphones.
  • Everyone knows that retailers need to go mobile, but did you know there are over 224 million smartphone device owners in the US? 60% of those smart phone users have made an online purchase using their mobile device in the last 6 months. That number is staggering. Retailers need to optimize their websites for the mobile experience or they will miss-out on a huge customer segment and boost in sales.
